Will did an interview for Sideonetrackone.co.uk

ourtimedownhere:

It was done just before Midnight Mass came out and has just been put online recently.

Los Campesinos! - We Throw Parties, You Throw Knives
I bought this primarily because I went to lectures and very occasionally hung out with Ellen who plays bass, and I wanted to support her band. It’s a cool release, really heavy yellow vinyl with a paper chain cut into the shape of the seven original band members.
I’m not really sure about pressing info for this one either.

IT LIVES.

First things first:

www.sideonetrackone.co.uk now exists. You can go there and click things. It’s real. Massive thanks to absolutely anyone who I interviewed, bounced ideas off or who has helped me with the practicalities, art, promotion, everything.

Head over to the site if you want to hear about why I love the Twin Peaks soundtrack, what Giles from Great Cynics top five cheeses are, why the new Our Time Down Here record owes a lot to David Bowie, and what my thoughts on Record Store Day are. I hope you like it.

Secondly, I started two Tumblr blogs today.

1) www.lingisms.tumblr.com - a celebration of Martin Ling, manager of my beloved Torquay United. For fans of lower league football and general odd sport related wisdom.

2) www.newadventuresinanalogue.tumblr.com - Basically where I get to get freaky about all my records. One for people who like vinyl, some of it rare, some of it not.

Cheers.

Coming Soon.

A quick update regarding what to expect on the website from April.

Interviews with:

OUR TIME DOWN HERE
APOLOGIES, I HAVE NONE
GREAT CYNICS
HOSPITALS
NICK MANN (EDITOR, A SHORT FANZINE ABOUT ROCKING)

and potentially more.

Also, there will be a few reviews (with a twist), and a handful of opinion/feature pieces, as well as TOP FIVES (wasn’t sure whether to run with it, but I think it works).

I’m also looking for someone to design a cover page for the website. It should basically be a cross between a magazine cover and a gig poster. The idea is that it will feature original artwork and also the names of the bands/people featured on the site that month.

So, yeah, thanks for reading. I hope you check out the site when it goes live, please stay tuned to this Tumblr for more info. Alternatively, like the facebook page (search ‘sideonetrackone.co.uk’) or follow me on Twitter (side1track1mag).

Rebirth: www.sideonetrackone.co.uk

Things have been pretty quiet on this Tumblr blog for some time now. This is for a bunch of reasons, but the main one is that sideonetrackone will be going nuclear in the near future, for the first time existing as a standalone website.

This is exciting for me. For years, I’ve contributed features, interviews and reviews to music sites and zines, but never got serious about a real project of my own.

If you have enjoyed reading the interviews on this blog, please consider visiting sideonetrackone.co.uk in the future, which will feature more of the same but a thousand times better (not yet though - it will not be live until some time in April). Through years of disillusion with the mainstream music press, I have developed a lot of ideas about how I think a music website should be run. I think once it gets going and I figure out how to put these ideas into action, it could be a real treat.

There is also a Facebook page that you can ‘like’, and you can follow @side1track1mag on Twitter, which I have reluctantly succumbed to. Both of which will be the main source of information about the site, how and when it is updated, who will be featured, etc.

Thanks for reading this. I find self promotion so incredibly difficult.

( )

I’ve been listening to a lot of Sigur Rós lately. I used to play ( ) when I couldn’t sleep as a troubled 20-year-old. Now I’m a troubled 25-year-old and it does the same job.

Maybe a year or so ago, I remember reading an interesting blog post by the band, centred around the idea of copyright infringement in television advertising. Specifically, the examples they gave related to their own music. You can find the original blog post here. It’s well worth a read:
